Adobe Media Player Catalogs, D3 is Winning the Noise War, and My Spoon is Too Big

I was pretty excited to find out this morning that the Adobe Media Player now has Layers TV in its catalog. The mere fact that Layers TV is even in rotation on AMP is due to the stylistic-ious workings of our web wizard Jim Gilbert. So, thanks to Jim, we can now be seen on the Adobe Media Player – and I might add that it is a really cool piece of software. If you haven’t checked it out, you really need to do so.
David Ziser has not taken any time get back into the groove, as witnessed by the numerous postings on his Digital Pro Talk site. The reason that I am mentioning him today is because of one key test that he has run.
Back when we hung out last, he brought with him the Canon 40D. I was drooling over the small amounts of low noise that you see with the 40D. A lot of people in the office were also drooling, and I dare say that I was very close to just up-ing and making the switch.
However, with the D3 coming out, the argument started again as to which company had the least noisy camera. According to David, it would appear that between the D3 and the 40D, the D3 is coming out on top. Check out his post on this.
Now, the D3 is about 5 Grand, the 40D is about $1,800 bucks with a 28-135 lens. I have to say I’m almost afraid of comparing the D300s noisiness to the 40D. As soon as I do, you will be the first to hear about it. I will say this – Canon’s making a great case for putting them on my Xmas wish list this year – you should too.
Here’s something that I thought was pretty cool – While checking out FJ Westcott’s website not too long ago, I was piqued by their Scrim Jim . It’s a diffuser that can be held up on a lightstand to help give you great photos outdoors. Sign me up!
A couple of people e-mailed about yesterday’s Flash Banner post and what “My Spoon is too big” meant. If you haven’t noticed, I am way geeky – and a big fan of Internet Folklore – and My Spoon is too Big is one of the biggest ones out there. It’s actually from an Academy Award nominated short called “Rejected”.

Hey Casey:
Correction noted! B&H has the 40D with a 17-85 IS for 1800, and the 28-135 for 1500. Not closing the price gap at all… it still hurts that the D300 is close to 1800 body only. Add to that the grip for 200 and change, and you’re well over 2K without a lens..
You probably cant see it, but Im seriously sneering at my D300 on my desk now… Thanks for the correction, and the comment.
