Happy Monday everyone. Over the weekend I spent some time checking out the blogs and one of the ones that stood out the most to me was David Duchemin at the Pixelated Image. Over the weekend, someone posted an email questioning “Professionals” and their practice of charging (what he thinks are) exorbitant prices for training. Whether you believe this to be the case or not, it did bring up a spirited argument on the blog post, asking about the fairness of prices, how much do “professionals” attend training, and asking for percentages of income to dedicate for training.

As a professional photographer (And… for the record- a Professional photographer is a photographer who now gets paid for his pictures. If you’ve sold a picture, you’re a professional.. and can still be an amateur.. or not good.. ) I am blessed to be surrounded by some incredible minds every day. You might think that these professionals just sit on the mountaintop and talk for a living - but that’s not true. I can’t begin to tell you how many times a conversation at work starts with “Hey.. so I went to this class on XYZ photography and.. ” The professional consistently is out there being a student.. learning more and more about their craft, and varying their experiences. So as far as I’m concerned, the professional teaches, and is taught - with great frequency. I, for one, appreciate that and do place a great value on it. I’m sure Dave would love to hear what you have to say on the subject too.

R.C.,

I had two questions:
1. I’ve noticed you have been talking about Artictic Photo Canvas, do you like the canvas prints that you’re getting from them more than what Mpix is doing?
2. I recently put Norton 360 on my PC. I’ve noticed that my system seems really bogged down since then. I was curious if there are any antivirus/spyware programs that you use/recommend?
