Living In Layers - The OFFICIAL Layers Magazine Blog
Be a Techie AND Help Others! Find Out How

When I comb the blogs, one of the first places I go to check out great content is The Strobist. The site is remarkable in a lot of ways. For one, it’s aimed at teaching people how to achieve great photography with very little fuss. David focuses on what works - all killer, no filler. He’s got articles that cover the very basics of lighting, how to do a lot with a little, and he even sets up assignments that you can follow along with to take your photography to the next level. However, one of the things that did catch my eye was what David is doing with Kiva.
By going to the website, not only can you learn cool things, but you can invariably help facilitate micro loans to people in other countries that can put them to great use. I saw this on David’s Thanksgiving post and I thought the idea was just awesome. I, for one, have to congratulate him on not only providing such an awesome resource, but also for acting in the spirit of helping out others. It’s just great.
Another place that should get a great honorable mention should be the Digital Art and Photo website. At the site you can purchase prints from Scott Kelby, and 100% of the proceeds go to Springs of Hope Kenya - a foundation set up to provide a clinic and orphanage for people in Kenya. Scott’s got some amazing stories of people who have actually bought prints there AND made generous contributions to the foundation.
So, I raise my coffee cup to Digital Photo and Art, and The Strobist. Who would have thought that being a techie would help out in this way. Have a great Friday everyone!
