Chris Orwig
Chris Orwig, pro photographer, interactive designer, and author, is on the faculty of the renowned Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. Moreover, he brings unique perspective, creativity, authenticity, and passion to all that he does. His publications include a number of best-selling training titles at Lynda.com: Enhancing Digital Photography with Adobe Photoshop CS & CS2, Photoshop CS3 for Photographers: Essentials Training, Photoshop CS3 for Photographers: Creative Techniques, Photoshop Lightroom Essentials, and more. Out of all of these creative endeavors, one of Chris’s favorites is having the opportunity to speak at various national and international Photoshop and Interactive design conferences.
Chris traces his creative roots to growing up in Northern California where his backyard opened onto rolling hills, oak trees, and creeks. He grew up in a home that was designed and built by his father and filled with art created by his mother. From the get-go, this environment nurtured in him an insatiable desire for discovery, a knack for creativity, and a desire to live a full and meaningful life.
His work is widely sought after and can be seen in various national publications. He enjoys a diverse and varied client base having worked with companies such as Disney, Adobe, Nissan, and others. Chris is extremely proud to partner with Adobe, Epson, Wacom, Nik Multimedia, onOne Software, and Really Right Stuff. More importantly, he approaches design and photography as a way to get more out of life. He explains, “I subscribe to Marc Riboud’s perspective that ‘Photography is savoring life at one hundredth of a second.’ When I create a photograph or a design piece, I strive to create visual poetry. Poets are able to say in 10 words what novelists say in 10,000. Ultimately after reading a poem, we simply don’t have more information; we have more experience. In the same way, I aim to distill idea, concept, vision, experience, and emotion into poetic, provoking, intriguing, and beautiful imagery."
