I am having trouble with step five. I cut out the image and delete the inverse, however when I copy and paste it into illustrator it shows up in a rectangle with a white background or with the inverse showing and the pictures gone. please help!

Thanks for the great tutorial. I have one question. When im done with step 7 and proceed to transfer each layer to AI, the layers i transfer over cannot be live traced... I have to use the direct selection tool to delete invisble anchor points on top of the image in order to press the live trace button.

any help would be great, Thanks

This is a great tutorial and easy to follow. I am very familiar with both Illustrator and Photoshop, unfortunately Live Trace is available in CS2, but not in CS. Is there a way to do this same technique (obviously the longer way) in CS? I am refering, of course, to the notorious Step 7.

Step 7 does sound confusing, but I think the author is writing to a more knowledgable group than a novice. Live Trace is just taking a raster image and converting it into a vector one- no pixals. Expanding simply gives you anchor points that allow you to manipulate the image using the direct selection tool. Live trace is awesome, and the effects can be really nice.

Great tutorial!

I do wish, however, that someone would answer violet's question. I am stuck at step 7 too.
