Can I install the deco tool as an component?

Comment by Ruben | January 2, 2009 @ 8:42 pm

No. The component is a CS4 only tool. It can’t be installed in CS3.

Excellent. Thanks.

I also want to know whether it is possible to trace an object outline in flash. For example we have bezier tool in coreldraw which will allow us to trace the outline of an object

Comment by Taget | January 25, 2009 @ 2:20 am

Not really. The best you can do is to trace the object in Flash and then play with the trace. I did a tutorial around that a month or so ago: http://www.layersmagazine.com/trace-bitmap-in-flash-cs4.html

Having just upgraded to CS4, finding the same clunky UI as in CS3 (only now it’s slower), not to mention an almost-immediate crash, I clicked the Deco Tool, clicked the stage, and did an immediate faceplant.

THIS is what Adobe gives us? Flowers and vines? Are they listening to us developers?

Comment by Jonathan | February 11, 2009 @ 3:03 pm

You don’t have to go with the vines. Use your own stuff instead.

What’s the issue, Joe?

Comment by Tom Green | February 11, 2009 @ 5:14 pm

First off, Joe, I am quite familiar with that link and have made my feelings known in other areas both private and public. Am I a huge fan of Flash CS4? Nope.Just a fan.

As for the “kidding me”. I agree the concept behind the tool is interesting but the execution of the tool leaves a lot to be desired. Same can be said for a few other new features as well. As for CS4 sucking … I prefer to not use a broad brush.

Sorry guys whether Joe has a point or not, How he’s going about it doesnt serve anyone. Hence their deletion.

CS4 rocks. Have you tried I.K.? Amazing…just amazing. 3D…and yes Deco. And no they are not listening to developers. Developers just use eclipse and compile in Flash. There is no point in listening to developers. But hell…actually everything is in AS 3.0 only now..you can code up anything you want. They have just finally given designers a way to create cool things without any code at all. Bravo Adobe and the Flash Team!

Hi Melinda. Yep. IK is the bomb. In fact I did a tutorial on the subject:
