I've been working on a 40+ page magazine. I opened the file recently to resume working and the version that opened was from 10 days previous! I have been saving the file all along. I even checked my backup copy on my external FW drive and it was the old version as well. What happened and can I get back what I lost?

What do I need to do to prevent this from happening again? I'm using CS and OSX 10.3.9.

Ethanna,

You mention a FW backup drive. Do you have a software backup ? If so, it could have had a problem. At least, it's the only thing I can think, assuming that you did not made an error saving your file.

That's possible. I'm using Dantz Retrospect Backup. It's acted funky every since I installed it. But what I don't understand is how my active copy and my backup copy could both be wrong. The active copy should be the most current.

I don't use a backup software but is it possible to imagine a scenario where the procedure has been reversed ? Instead of the current file being backed up on the backup drive, could it be that the old version (on the backup drive) is being "backed up" on the working drive ? Thus, both version are identical but always remain the same : the older version ?

Did you ever do a save and the dialogue box appear as a "save as" box this often happens in CS 2!!!! (herein lies another querie) and yo may have inadvertantly saved it in a folder not in your Retrospect sources, and I am sorry to say maybe not even the same name!
Try a "find file" or look for an InDesign document created/modified on the last date/time you worked on it.

Retrospect has saved my hide too many times for me to believe it would mess up like that.

Good luck
