Hi,

I am having problems in InDesign when adding a drop shadow to text. It looks fine on the screen, but when I print the document the background color in the text block (or blocks) with the drop shadow(s) is a different shade than the rest of the document. Any thoughts?

Also, the same type of problem is happening when I place graphics with irregular borders in a document with a colored background. Even though the background color appears fine on the screen, it prints with a rectangle box in a different shade around the graphic.

Thanks!!!! :)

This appears to be a very common problem as it has been asked on many forums. The best answer seems to be to make sure the background against which the text boxes or graphics are placed, is NOT a spot colour. It must be CMYK. There are links to two PDFs from Adobe regarding transparency in InDesign in another thread in this forum which may help further.

Are you printing to a PostScript-compatible printer? If not, that could be your problem. If you're not sure, consumer-level inkjets are not PS-compatible unless you have purchased either a hardware or software RIP.

The workaround? Make a PDF and print that from Acrobat.
