I am looking for as much advice as can be offered on ways to save on print, I am volunteering to design everything from business cards, brochures and an annual report for a provincial charity and they have asked me to help them purchase the print. It seems the guy who used to do it has left them.

I understand that some of the runs will be large enough to run web and some litho, many runs will involve a PMS colour as well.

If you can throw everything you can think of at me I will compile it and give it to them once we get through this.

Thanks in advance.

One cost effective way to save on printing is to actually trade work with the printer. Another it too offer to put their logo prominently on all materials with a little blurb like "all printing donated by..." and have them donate the printing for free. In either of these two freebie methods, you'll probably still have to pay for the paper.

Depending on where you live you can also approach the paper vendor and see if he will contribute paper for this cause. Paper vendors used to always be looking for PR.
Some paper goes out of style and they have left over paper. Or the printers usually have "house stock" which he gets the best financial deal on. Also ask for a number three quality paper, that is lower and cheaper.
