The colors are nice and vibrant. The contrasting blue and yellow surrounded by thier breend bring the color together nicely, and the white fence helps bring it out.

The composition however seems rather ordinary. I would like to see the same picture, standing slightly to the right, looking down a little more and pulled back, but with a higher focal length lense so you take out some of the background (especially the unsightly chain link fence), it would also reduce the depth of field and concentrate the focus more on the chair and stump.

Must disagree on the not needing the Chain link fence. It is most definitely needed to help tell the story and set mood, letting you know you are on a farm or ranch, and not just in some yuppie's backyard.

And the depth of field is set at a most clever depth. Lessing the depth would make the photo look like: Photography 101, how to blur a background.

I don't equate chain link fence with a farm or ranch, I equate that to middle class suburbs. If it were a Wooden post and wire fence I might be more inclined to agree. But to each his own.

Just offering up my opinion. Though I would define Photo101 as a centered subject with even and flat lighting taken at eye level with a 50-100mm focal length lens from 10-15 feet away with an apature (f-stop) at F16 and a shutter speed of 1/125th of a second.

Blurred backgrounds are Photo 102.

Cool. But just incase, let's ask BigPix. Do they have middle class suburbs in Narooma NSW-Australia, bigPix?

That's nice. It reminds me of a quote I once heard by Ansle Adams. A quote I try to relate to in my every day life as well as art. He once said something to the affect of: "You can have all the manuals and shutter times and exposure tables in the world, but if you don't have a certain touch you will never take a good photo.

Please post of some of your shots Torch511.

as this is a quick grab photo while walking pass said subject, you are reading too much into a simple subject shot for fun........
