Searchable PDFs

Hi,

I'm putting together a desk guide with a lot of pdf policy docs and wanted to check if anyone knows how far back the search capability goes in Acrobat Reader. If my target audience has strict security (no downloads) on their systems and possibly outdated software, will they still be able to search (as long as all docs are converted from images to OCR/text)?
