OK I’m new to the whole design industry. I just graduated from college and if there is one thing I learned it's that they don't teach you anything to prepare you for the real world!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how you know your pictures are embedded. Also, how do you find the link to the name of the photo once it is on your art board?
Be prepared, you all may get sick of me...I have tons of questions!
Thank You! :)
Hi Rookie06,
Welcome to these forums. You will find a lot of people here who are ready to help.
When you Place (File/Place) an image, in the bottom of the Place dialog, you can check or uncheck the Link button. You can see the status of this image in the Link palette (Window/Link).
If I may suggest, you can find by yourself most of the answers for your "future" questions. There are lots of books for that and one of the easiest thing that you could do is to go trought Illustrator's Help. You'll find a lot there, with tutorials. But if you still can't find, we'll be happy to help.

One easy way to tell if an image is embedded is that there will be an absence of the file name in the links palette. If an image is in the links palette without a name then you know it is embedded. Instead of a name there will an icon that looks sort of like the old .pict icon.
Repro, is this a feature of Ill CS2 ? Because in CS1, all the names of placed images, embeded or not, appear in the Links palette. The ones that are embeded do have the "old .pict" icon.
When you copy and paste or drag an image into Ill, then the image is embeded and there's no name in the Links palette.

Good question, maybe it was an Illustrator 10 thing. :o Up until recently one of my best clients was still using Illustrator 10, so I was very familar with 10, even though I was using CS2 as well. Luckily they've moved on to CS 2 now, so that's a relief. I'll be working for them tommorow so I guess I'll find out if I still have to use AI 10.
