hi guys
i'm working in ai and using the paintbrush tool - so i've painted one section, then i'm using the paintbrush again to go over a few uneven areas - the second lot of work i do is darkened on the overlapping piece of work

how can i get the two sections to blend so it's all on colour ?

thanks guys

I don't use the brush tool to do much work mops, just the ocassional fancy things like some lettering. The only thing I can think of, is your brush is set to multiply. I clicked around and I can't even get my brush to stay on multiply. Every new brush stroke I make has to be set to multiply after I make the mark. ???

ok - hopefully this image will work - i've just scribbled it so you get the idea ...

* two separate images scribbled with paintbrush in ai
* both images set to 50% transparency

i would like the overlapping bit to blend in so it looks like one image - any thoughts?

hey guys - dont worry i've sorted it
i was reading another thread on here 'torn edges around an object' and found a reply by 'eugenetyson' which was similar to my query

basically - i selected the two objects about and clicked on 'add to shape area' in the pathfinder option - which blended both objects into one

many thanks all and to eugenetyson for posting that !

Yes, that's what I've been saying all along. Somewhere in there, Mops, you have some opacity or blend mode or overprinting occurring, otherwise you would not see the results you seeing.

But since you're new to AI I want tp point out something. If you were to draw an elaborate drawing with built up from tons of scribbles, you could wind up exploding the RIP while it tries to process all those zillions of points that are created. The fewer points you have in drawing, the more efficient it is, and the easier it process. If you feel the need to work up a drawing with lots and lots of scribble areas, you might want to choose Photoshop for that instead, or even better, Painter. What a great program painter is.

I'm sorry, I just read your post more carefully. Instead of using 50% transparacy, just make the color a Global Swatch, check the Global check box in the Swatch Properties, and then use a 50% Tint of that swatch instead of a 50% transp. Then the two areas won't blend.
