hi

i was wondering is their a way that you can vector a photo e.g. a photo of a person into a vector with out losing any detail to the photo,i've tried the preset
6 photo and 16 photo in live trace but it was no where near like the photo image
quailty and did'nt have the real live effect to it

thanks andy

no. I'd think you have to be to an artist.

There is a short tut that suggests how the effect is achieved at the sister publication...

You may have to sign up/join or something to get to it. It is by Steve Kurth. The first couple of steps are NOT photo-realistic, but the next steps ARE, so stay with it.

In general, it supports Repo Kid's reply in that it is a more artistic effort than a mechanical one as in Live Trace.

Another approach is to use Corel Painter (sorry, Adobe) that has built-in auto painting features. You start with a scanned or placed photo and let it go to work. You "help" the process by pausing it to choose larger brushes for less detail and smaller brushes for greater detail. You can end up with your choice of a result you can't tell from the original, or something that looks like Van Gogh painted it. You can save the results in any number of file formats, including native Photoshop .psd.
