View Full Version : how do I lock a pdf file?

I am wondering how I can lock a pdf file so that whomever I send it to will not be able to edit the file or open it in any other program such as illustrator or photoshop...

Look in the "Security" section of the "Document properties".

Yes but I understand if someone really wanted to "get into that password protected file there are 3rd party programs that will allow them to do that.

There is always a way to break even the best security attempts. Remember when Windows touted their activation for XP and hyped up how it was going to stop piracy? It was defeated in mere hours.

Do what you can, password protecting the document will make it more difficult for the general person to open up. If whoever it is is willing to go through the trouble of defeating that, then they will go through the trouble of defeating any other measure.

It's quite easy to crack pdf's, you don't even need to buy security cracking software in fairness.
