HI. I work in a small copy shop using PCs. I am using Indesign CS. I have used it only twice so far; as we have not had a lot of demand for it.
I have received a file from a customer that has 6 pages. It is supposed to be printed out as 1 2 sided 11 x 17 with a 2 sided 8.5 x 11 insert.

I have separated the 11 x 17 and the insert into 2 separate files; but how do I move the pages that are to be printed on the 11 x 17 so that they print out properly?

The designer has checked off facing pages and I have 4 pages in 3 spreads.

I have tried dragging the pages int he pages paleete, both with and without facing pages checked off, but I can not seem to change the page order.

Is there an easy way to do this?

This sounds like you are having an imposition problem and you have no imposition software. Am I correct? InDesign Cs didn't come with its own imposition software but if your boss has bought the PageMaker Plug in for it you would have gotten a version of ALAP's InBooklet which is a light weight imposition software. but since you have to do this on your own, Page 3 and 4 would be your insert and a separate file. The inside of the 11 x 17 would be pages 2 and 5 with 2 on the left side as you read the sheet. the outside would be pages 1 and 6 with page one being on the side of the sheet that has page two on the other side of the sheet. You would have to lay out your project like that in your design.

While that isn't all that hard to do, if you have design elements that cover more than one page and spread across two pages and these pages are in the different files you are in for an interesting time. Using the control pallet you can be very exacting with your measurements and placement but it surely isn't the easiest or most automated way to produce a job.

I'm sorry that I can't be more help to you. The Page maker plugin with INBooklet was not all that expensive if I remember right, but I can't find my receipt at the moment.
