So I have a file, let's call it LogoFinal.ai I will open the file and make some adjustments. When I try and save the file I've been getting this pop-up (The file is already open or in use by another application). Therefore I can't save. So I have to do a 'save as' and name it something different. Then I try and and throw the file LogoFinal.ai into the trash, because that is now the old file... and I get the same pop-up. In order for me to properly throw the file away, I must restart my comp. (I'm using both Vista and XP). Does anyone know the solution to this issue? Thanks.

I've had that problem from my Mac while working connected to a PC server (I know you're on a PC). What I had to do was get up from my Mac and go to my PC and get to the file to throw it away, then I could replace the file.

My idea is, if you are on a server, you might also be able to go to another PC and throw the file away.

I've had that problem. To throw away the file after making a new one and renaming it, make sure the applications are all turned off and go to the main file through finder and throw it away from there. Empty the trash when no applications are open or on. That works for me.

Thanks guys. I pretty much do both of your methods, but it still seems redundant. And as you know....1 second is 1 second and 60 secs = 1 min....60 mins = 1 hour and so on and so on. I'm just trying to minimize time where I can...I'm sure you can relate. There has to be a solid solution out there for this issue...

Have your tried "Unlocker"?
It's a free (I think) program that will help you unlock the files that won't close propperly... might help with your problem... I just used it with an Illustrator file with the same problem and it worked!!
A quick search in the internet gave me this result...
http://www.google.es/search?sourceid=navclient&hl=es&ie=UTF-8&rls=HPND,HPND:2006-26,HPND:es&q=unlocker
Hope it helps you
