I'm getting into making an online magazine. I would like to know if photoshop would be a good program to use to lay everything out and build it as a .pdf. Please input any advice or any other programs that may be good for this.

Probably not the best choice to do it completely in Photoshop. You should use a page layout program like InDesign or Quark. If you do the whole thing in PhoSho, you'll need a different file for each page (or different layer sets or layer comps), which can get unruly. You can layout multiple page documents easily in the above programs. Also, your PDFs will be much smaller than doing it all in PS because it doesn't have to be all raster. Quality of type will be better as well.

If all the pages will have the same, basic layout and only supporting images will change, you might be able to get away with it in Photoshop. Using layer sets and slicing properly will accomplish what you want. I've done this before, but only with sites where sub pages are, essentially, the same.

The previous suggestion of using something like InDesign is also worth considering. Good luck! :)
