For those not in the know there is a great set of Podcasts on using InDesign - hosted by Michaell Murphy - aka the Indesigner. See him at:http://www.indesignsecrets.com/category/videocasts/

You will not be disappointed!

Hi Gary,

Glad to see you've joined the Layers Forum.
As I mentioned in other threads, there's lots of knowledgeable people here.

Jeff, thanks for the reply comment. How about finding a bit of time and writing up something on that Floating Ghost Images for the InDesign folks. It seems it had gotten to the point where it was easy to do?

Gary.

floating ghost images?

Floating ghost images is a copying and pasting parts of an underlying image into separate "window panes" and then staggering them over the original for cool results.

The original idea I saw was done in Illustrator and InDesign (early versions by a fellow Downunder) but we could never get it to work the way it was "supposed" to. Ace came up with a neat way to do most of it in InDesign directly and posted a Tutorial on it in Layers [See online Tutorials]. But we could not get that last bit (the staggering of the images) the way it should look (I am not a designer so I cannot explain it well - suffice to say the original intended effect, while sounding simple to do, did not work). Then someone posted a tip on pasting images into separate panes in a different way and "voila", things worked out. Ace and I have not pursued this for awhile but if he is willing maybe we can post the details and see if folks are as impressed with it as he (I think) and I are.

Terry White has posted something similar but that way to offset or stagger the images has not been presented before other than from the fellow in the other half of the globe. I have been in touch with that fellow and thus far even he cannot resolve why that last step has not been working until now.

Intrigued? Lets ask Ace (time permitting) if he is up to the challenge of writing it up. He writes very well.
