I have an image that is just a color gradation and it is a fairly bright color. After I save the file and place it in ID, whether a JPG file or a PSD, the color is muted in ID. I have linked to an image showing the image open in PS overlapping the ID document.

Anybody know why this is happening? The ID document image is after opening a blank document and placing the file. There is no transparency or other filters or anything applied.

Any clues?

Thanks,
David

Well your image is RGB, perhaps you have your transparancy blend space set to CMYK? Or you could have different colour profiles working photoshop than you have in InDesign. Make sure your colour profiles are the same and you won't get much of a shift. I say much, because InDesign only provides a saved thumbnail version of the image for your preview. That is, the image isn't really in the file, it's just a link to it. So, if it looks good in the Photoshop file and that is what your printer outputs from Photoshop, then it should output like that from your InDesign file.

You could also try turning off the Save Image Colour Profile in the Photoshop file in the Save dialouge box that comes up. Or you could embed your colour profile, overriding any other applications use of the image and it's colour space.

But I really think you're viewing it in two different colour spaes, RGB in photoshop and CMYK in InDesign.

Thanks. I will look into that. You may very well be correct.
