I have been having a problem lately with Photoshop CS2. At least once when I have been working in Photoshop and I try to Save for Web, Photoshop will suddenly quit. I then have to restart and hope I have saved my project so I can continue. This is happening all too frequently. Any suggestions?

when you save for the Web in Photoshop, that starts up Image Ready. If Photoshop is crashing EVERY Time that you save for the WEB I would believe that there is something wrong with Image ready staart up files. I think that first I would trash the preference file for both Photoshop and Image Ready. If that doesn't solve the problem I would reinstall Photoshop after having removed it totally from my system.

But before you do that, have you installed any updaters recently? Did it work fine before the updater and then start this odd behavior afterward?

Without knowing your system and all your third party plug ins for photoshop, I cant suggest anything else

Look at the window that appears when you save a picture for the web, The title bar says, save for the web, powered by image ready. that is why I said that image ready is opened. I can only go by what I read. I agree with you that Image Ready isn't fully on, but some part of it is used to save pictures for use on the Web and when that part is accessed, something corrupt in there could cause photoshop to crash.

I think that DCurry is ritght. Even if you see "Powered by Image Ready" on the top of the window does not mean that Image Ready is open or that "some part of it is used". If you look at the bottom of the window, on the right, you will see a button "Edit in Image Ready" wich will open the app.
As for Brott's problem I can only suggest to trash the prefs and repair permissions, for a start.
Or maybe just trash the "Adobe Save for Web (version number) Prefs". Mine is located in User/Library/Preference.

I would trash only the "save for web" prefs for starters, like guyb suggested.

But first I would just try repairing my disk permissions and then restarting.

My Illustrator was acting up yesterday, all the tool palettes disappeared and repeatedly hitting the tab key did nothing to restore them. So I ran All Tasks in Mac Janitor, repaired my disk permissions twice, restarted, and illustrator was back to normal. Whenever my apps have been acting up, repairing permissions and restarting has done the trick. I rarely, if ever, have had to throw away any prefs files since I got on MacOsX.

And I think DCurry's right about image ready not launching or even being accessed during saving for web. I had Photoshop open when I read DCurry's comment so I opened up Apple's Activity Monitor utility and did some save for web stuff with the activity monitor in view. Photoshop and the kernel task showed some increased activity but image ready never even showed up.
