Can that be done? I exported as an InDesign Interchange. Does this work?

Yes, it's the way to go. But you have to be using build 838 of CS 3.01 from April 2005.

You need to be careful when 'saving back' with InDesign. There are some special effects in IDCS2 that are not in IDCS. Like for instance, the drop shadow dialogue in IDCS2, contains a setting for "Blur" which is not in IDCS. So if you have something created in IDCS2 and it utilizes the drop shadow filter on an element, when you save it back to INX then open in IDCS, some funky stuff happens to that drop shadow. I haven't had time to really test this thouroughly, but I did find it happen to me at least once.
