I have two text frames: one with a fill color (with white text)and one without with black text).
How do I put the same fill color in the no fill colored text frame that the other text frame has? :)

Select the appropriate frame and then select the colour you want it to be filled with.

Is this a trick question?

Hi Janet,
Sounds like you need to save the color in question as a Swatch. Select the object that's Filled with the color you want to apply. Look under the Options menu of the Color palette and choose "Add to Swatches." Select the other object and click on the newly added Swatch to apply.
Hope this helps!

Or just select the text frame with no fill color with the selection tool, choose the eyedropper and click with it in the text frame with the fill color.

I believe you have to use the Direct Selection tool when trying to fill a background color into a text box. Using the Object Selection tool will change the color of the text itself.
Just tried it : works with both selection tools (in CS). You just have to be sure to click on the backround color with the eyedropper and not on some text.

Hi Repro,
You're thinking of Illustrator. In InDesign, there are a couple of buttons at the top of the Swatches panel. If the "T" button is pressed, Type will be filled or stroked. If the Frame button next to it is pressed, the Frame itself will be filled or stroked.
The differences between the two programs can drive ya nuts. Just yesterday I was describing an Illustrator feature in an InDesign training session. You would not believe the blank stares I was getting from the group.

I know about the "T" button, but I think the direct selection tool has the same affect without having to make a trip to the "T" button (When I'm in the type tool, I hold down command and click on the text box or anywhere on the page, then type V or A, and then I'm in the selection tool without going to the T button or the tool palette.) but now that I'm trying, I can only get the T to light up when I'm in the text tool. Switching to either selection tool zaps the T and fills the box. ?

Hi Repro,
Can't seem to get it to work the way you're describing. But I did find another fast way without pressing the T button.
Don't select either Frame. Click with your Eyedropper on the object containing the Fill color you wish to pick up. Hover over the Text Frame with the Eyedropper until the tool's icon turns into a combination Eyedropper and I-bar type cursor. Click and drag across the text to select it. The Eyedropper will change the color of just the text that is selected. All other text will not be changed.
Cool!
