Just had a customer phone me and ask why the superscript stopped working. "the letters are raised but not scaled" my first reaction was that they had mixed up the super script and shift baseline…but not the case. The customer recently uppgraded to CS3 and the original document was a Quark file. In the preferences there are some "document specific preferences" (should they have been in the document seup instead ). Under Advanced type I can set the documents scale and position for superscript and subscript, and also the scale for Small Caps.
maybe this is an obscure feature for InDesignSecrets podcast
:)

Hi, was this for just things like 1st, 2nd and 3rd or was it for footnote references?

Two things, it could be that the

The opentype feature is where the font has the superscript numers included
It works for foot notes, or anything that uses superscript ( if you use superscript or subscript for footnote refference number).
Just like the small caps setting is for those fonts which don't have small caps by design.
I can imagine the problem is when you use different fonts that give harmony with different small cap sizes, but seriously if how many fonts would you use with faked small caps in a dokument :p

Actually it's not new at all. From the beginning, Quark's Preferences include scaling and positioning of subscripts, superscripts, small caps, etc. InDesign has carried this on.
