Hi All,
Does anyone else have a problem opening InDesign files from DVDs? I like to spot check my files on disk before handing them off to my freelance clients. When I try to open an InDesign file, the program looks like it is going to open the file, and then does nothing, and more nothing, until I finally force quit and get the message "InDesign is not responding." Wow! No kidding, like I didn't know that. This usually corrupts my InDesign Preference, and it won't open anything until I delete Preferences.
At first I thought that it could be happening because, on a DVD. InDesign has no place to put that "idlk" Data file that the application creates to keep track of everything you do in working on your layout. But then again, I have no problem opening InDesign files from CDs. Hmm!
Any thoughts?

Ace, I'm sure this is probably not the the problem, but my one thought is, do you have your finder prefs set to launch the DVD Player when inserting DVDs? Maybe Indeisgn and the DVD player are fighting over what to do with the DVD.
idlk data file ??? What's that?

Hi Repro,
Good thought, but no. DVD Player does not open.
I'm wondering if it's just something with my internal DVD player. I'm going to mount the DVD using the recorder and also try my laptop.
Thanks!

Hi Repro,
That didn't take long.
ID files open right up with no problem from my external DVD recorder.
Wonder what's up with the internal drive. Wierd!

I realize that I am on a PC and all, but DVD drives have a bad habit of going bad. From only reading certain brands of DVD media to just not working.
If you have a combo drive then often times it will read CDs fine, but not DVDs. That is very common.
Luckily they are not that expensive, and easy to switch out, at least on PCs.

I think you're right about that torch, my combo drive is all of a sudden not opening certain DVDs.

Hmm! It doesn't mount DVDs from one of my clients.
Another little reason to get that new computer!
Thanks!

Ace, check the speed of the DVDs from the client who's DVDs won't mount. Some of the lessor DVD drives won't mount the really fast DVDs like the 52 times ones. Or your client may be handing you re-writable DVDs without actually burning them.

Hi Repro,
Good thought!
She's using garbage store brand DVDs
Not the latest high-speed.
Thanks!

I don't know if this has to do with the problem you are talking about but I had quite a few problems a couple of months ago trying to put a video, made with iMovie, on a DVD. I did some search on Apple sites (iMovie forums) : it was a very well known problem and what it came down to is never use "cheap" DVDs... and that was my problem ! I had bought a pile of DVDs, a brand I did'nt know, very cheap price, I thought I had made a good deal ! Error : while I could play the DVD on my Mac, it never got to work on any DVD reader on any TV ! I bought some DVD from Sony, Apple and TDK; while not cheap, they worked !
Just picking a straw here, but just check if the brand of the problematic DVD is a cheap one.

Hi GuyB,
As I said a few seconds ago above ^
You're right!
A lot of people think that it's just a piece of plastic. Why pay more?
Now we know why.
Thanks!

But I was also implying that the Faster speed DVDs sometime can't be read by some of the superdrives, they need the slower speed DVDs. Although this mainly affects writing, I wondered if it might affect reading as well.

Good question, I'll try to find some info on this.
Ace, you're right : we both posted at exactly 03:59 pm !
Looking for help on a program??
Flash and photoshop intergration.
I purchased a template in which it contains many hyperlinks. This hyperlink though goes to one layer in the Main flash template. I cannot find it on photoshop to edit.
My question is how can I edit this hyperlink, (once i press the link and screen comes up?) that comes up.?? I am trying to put different information in the screen. Please let me know.
I am using CS3 web premium.

Hi eugenetyson,
I had the same feeling at first, but where's the link to some awful product that no one needs or wants?
Hmm!
Maybe that's coming in a response now that he has our attention.

Hi,
If you really want help with Flash, I suggest you start a thread in the Flash section of this forum.
You're far more likely to get answers.

Yeah, I can't tell if it's spam or not because he did post it in a different place too. But no links. But obviously he isn't responding to any of your questions so I will give it an infraction and see what happens.

I don't think it's spam. Ace redirected him, I'm sure the flash forum will work better for him than the ID forum.

I think many of the repeat offense spammers have already packed their bags and went off to find more fertile grounds. Sunday morning was notorious for fresh spam in large quantities and yesterday I awoke to no new spam. The thing with those spams we were getting is most were "Pay for Click" spams. I did some researching on the web for "how to make money on the web" schemes and it seems the Pay for Click is very big right now. People place posts in forums with links to commercial web sites and then they get paid for each click the site receives, I hate to click on the links because they then get paid, but sometimes it's the only way to see if it's linked to an obvious commercial site. They also can then further get a commission if someone who clicks then buys the product.
