Is that Palos Verdes Estates on the hill in the background?

Sort of, "The Hill" or the Palos Verdes Peninsula is divided into 5 0r 6 cities, Palos Verdes, Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Miraleste, and maybe one other that escapes me right now. Lunada Bay and Portugese may also be their own cities, not sure. I think what's in view in this photo is Palos Verdes and some of Hollywood Riviera, which is technically not really part of PV. The Estates are up top, farther east, and south, from what can be seen in this photo.

Well, all those 5 or 6 different cities are muddled in my memory. I lived in one of those houses in about the middle of the photo along the first row of houses above the trees that are above the houses above the cliff for a year in 1963. Our address was Palos Verdes Estates. At least, that’s how I remember it. I could be wrong. I graduated from Palos Verdes High in 1964, and left the area for good in 1967, but I thought I still recognized the area.

What I was describing as up top and east was Rolling Hills Estates. The other city I couldn't remember was Rolling Hills. What can I say? I grew up in Manhattan Beach and can't keep track of all those PV cities :o

It’s been a very long time since I’ve been down there. Rolling Hills Estates is where we moved to after PV Estates. Rolling Hills High was still under construction then, so I graduated from PV High. Interesting to still see all that empty space south of Rolling Hills on the map. I figured that would be all developed by now. We used to hunt rabbits with pellet guns in that area. Gets me to thinking about things I haven’t thought of for a very long time.

You need to zoom into the map to see the smaller roads where there appear to be none. There is most definitely development. :(

Actually, that whole area pointed out by wingspar has major land shift problems, which is the primary reason why there is less development in that region. Many many years ago some very poor engineering and planning resulted in septic systems being widely used in the above lying area. These septic systems leached chemicals and waste into the rock bed for over 50 years resulting in a huge area of unstable sliding land in what was originally rock. The land slides so badly that the whole stretch of PV Drive East, below that area, is constantly shifting. The speed limit is 10 mph and the road buckles and twists into a new configuration almost daily. Trump built his Golf Course at the foot of this unstable area, in what was once a secret beach. The land is so unstable that one day, one of holes of the course slid into the ocean leaving a hundred foot deep chasm right in middle of the course. They had to build a foot bridge over the chasm, so players could reach the rest of the course. But PV is nice.
