I'm still a PS 6.0 user, but will finally make the CS switch very soon. But for now I'm in dire need to know how to create smart quotes in my text in 6.0. I've tried a code for it (opt +0147), but it didn't work for me. Anyone know how to do this. Many thanks!!
If only the glyph palette were available in Photoshop, life would be so much easier.

I laughed and laughed one day as I read through a dozen or so posts on a local BBS where PC users were trying to explain to each other how to set real quote marks. In situations like this it seems that a Mac could almost be worth it's weight in gold.
And all to set a simple quote mark...
“yikes”

Hi Repro,
All of that just to set real quotes. Interesting! But a huge waste of time.
There's a good reason that nearly 90% of PROFESSIONAL print graphics is created on a Mac.

Weell, I do have an idea.
If vickig444 is lucky enough to also own Illustrator and/or InDesign maybe they could turn on the so-call “smart-quotes” feature, set some quotes, copy them, and paste them into PS.
Round-a-bout; probably. Effective; hopefully. Sad; definitely.
Not knocking you vickig444. Good cheer, ’tis still the holidays!

Hi vickig444,
I think Repro's hit on the solution. Worked for me.
Sorry about the earlier post. I should have been looking a solution, instead of poking fun.
You'll be happy to know that Photoshop CS2 does allow you to turn on Smart Quotes in Preferences. It's not worth upgrading for, but there are lots of other improvements and great new features that are sure to pay for themselves in no time.

I was thinking (always a dangerous thing for me to do) that if vickig444 was using OS X she could always use the special characters pallet, then I remembered that Photoshop 6 wasn't native OS X so that option is out also. See what happens when I think… I dream up non existent solutions.

grnofslt's post got me to thinking. I was going to point out that vickig444's mention of trying a code:
"Now I've tried a code for it (opt +0147)"
must mean they are on a PC, because PCs use this code type of stuff to set composite characters.
But then I looked closer. "Opt +1447" ???
Does a PC have an option key? I can't remember.
What is it, vickig444? Are you on a Mac or a PC?
If you're on a PC then maybe your code should work if you sub the alt key for your nonexistent opt key (Does a PC have an option key? I can't remember!). If you're on a Mac then you "don't need no stinking codes."
On a Mac, a simple "opt-open bracket" will give you an open quote and a simple "opt-shift-open bracket" will give you and end quote.
When asking these Mac/PC dependent questions, peeps should reveal what platform they're on, else no will be able to provide a relevant answer.
Thanks for thinking grnofslt.
