Hello,

I was wondering if I have a page size 8.375 x 10.75 and I want to have bleeds. (note: I am printing to PDF for a commerical printer) Where would I create the bleeds? In the "document setup" or the the "PDF setup"?

Also, what number do I put in for the bleeds, I mean exactly what number should go into all 4 boxes in order to measure correctly.

And is there anything else that I may need to know when creating a document that bleeds?

Thank you in advance!

If you want to work with bleeds, it's better to see them when you work, no ? So that's why I use the "Document setup" to indicate the bleeds. When you export to PDF, just select the option "Use Document Bleed Settings".

As for the size, in the Document Setup dialog, enter the width and height of the final document and add the bleed; I use .25 in. but you should ask your printer.

Your document size should be your final trim size (8.375 x 10.75) - that way the crop marks applied in the PDF will indicate the trim.

To make an object bleed, just extend it past the edge of the document (at least 1/8" - like GuyB says, check with the printer as to how much bleed they want. Rule of thumb - better to add too much bleed than not enough!)
