Did a quick job in CS3 Illustrator for an 18" sticker. Don't work in it much at all. Just words outlined and a couple simple shapes. 3 spot colors in all. When I went to save it, it told me it was just 72 dpi. So I quit out of that and looked around but couldn't find how to change the dpi? I thought once it was outlined it didn't matter? It is vector then?

Are you sure it wasn't telling you that the Raster Effects Settings of your document was set to 72 dpi?

Yes! that was it, so I looked it up and did what I needed. Thanks again!

Remember that Illustrator is a Vector based Application and I realize your question was answered but here is a tip for us noobs that I just learned a few weeks ago.

Say you want to save your illustrator document as a jpg, or gif for the web. click on 'Save for Web & Devices' or Alt-Shift-Ctrl-S (see below)

Then click on the 'Image Size' tab over on the right. Since Illustrator is vector, it can be successfully scaled to any size you want in the Percent box. Just remember to hit the apply button.

Well here I am again. Now I saved a vector clip art and found the 300 dpi but when I put it in ID it was very jagged. What did I do wrong? The screen on the left is Ai and the Screen on the right is ID.

What did you have the display set to? This is not unusual if you have it set to Typical Display in ID. Set it to High Quality and see what happens.

Typical display is much faster - that's what I usually use and once in a while I check with High Quality.

A faster way, if you want to leave your display at a low setting without having to toggle between High Quality display and Typical Display, is to click on Overprint Preview (View/Overprint preview) or Option-Shift-Command-Y.
