Living near the torrance Airport, I love when I can get a good photo of a nice air plane passing by. Got this photo just now, and yes Virginia, I did crop it ;)
Raw photo with some substantial Temperature and Tint adjusting, and a 100 adjustment on the Fix Blue/Yellow Fringe on the Defringe, Highlight Edges.
I suppose if I had any kind of a real lens on this camera I could get a much better shot, I'm zoomed all the way in but I'm not sure how much my lens zooms, Probably 3X.

Okay, so I'm guessing no one likes airplane photos as much as I do. Look at that Rotary Engine! Beautiful (not my photo, the airplane!)

Hi Repro,
Cool shot!
You know who would really appreciate this plane? Warking! But I don't think he participates in the forum anymore.

Thanks you guys. It's not real easy getting these, first I have to spot one, then I have to hope that they botch the first landing, so I then have time to grab my camera in hopes that they come around for a second pass.

Actually, I love airplanes and am a pilot (private). This one looks like and old Stearman or Army PT-19 trainer of late 30s vintage.
Engine could be a double wasp radial, but can't see enough detail. Nice!

Isn't there a lot of noise in that picture? Or did you do that on purpose Repro?

mitz, It's not really noise so much as as it is grain from the ccd. The full photo is 48.4"x36.6" at 72 dpi, and the shot was taken with the 3x zoom zoomed all the way in. The cropped area I posted is 1:1. Here is the full shot, so you can get an idea.

I love planes, especially bi-planes, I have 2 sport RC biplanes, an Ultimate and a Pitts, and I have a stearman as well.
I guess I got spoiled in the service, especially being Airborne and ending up near AFBs all the time. I have hundreds of pics of F15 fighters low-flying the runway on elmendorf 10 feet off the ground and then turning 90 degrees upward and slamming on the afterburners. I have lots of pics of helicopters as well, Apaches, Heuys, Blackhawks, Sea Stallions. My favorite that I have was a UH-60 coming in for a landing up at Geronimo DZ in Alaska. Snow was kicking up and you can see the funnels. I was running the DZ/LZ and snapped the pic after I turned over control to the guide. I took a dozen as it was coming in but that one shot was killer, I have it framed in my office.
Too bad that was all before the days of digital. One of these days I need to yank out my negative files and get the negs scanned. I used to work at a place that did that and had a great scanner for it and I never bothered.

The landing pattern of the torrance airport circles around my block so I get a pretty nice view of some cool planes from time to and they fly low. they used to do annual air shows before 9-11 and they had lots of vintage war planes flying in and out during the show. the stealth fighter would fly by during these events as well, but not land. I have a shot of one, but it is very small, I'll have to look for it, it was taken with my old 2.1 mgpxl camera and probably not even zoomed.
