How can I print IMG file numbers

Hi there this is my first ever question on a forum. I have taught myself the very basics of photoshop for my budding schools/nursery business but can anyone tell me if there is a way to automatically print the image numbers onto my proofs prints as this would save a lot of time and effort for me.

Have you tried the contact sheet in Photoshop?

in case you haven't. it's a great tool, could be just what you are looking for
