Writing on a banner

I am just learning Flash and am trying to make a banner that has a tattoo machine going across and writing the name of a tattoo shop. I understand the timeline and some basic tweening. But how do you get something like handwriting to appear as it is written, or tattooed?

Any help would be wonderful.

Several tutorials out there for "handwriting effect" ... some better than others but the basic principle is the same...
