Does anyone know the proper format to save a file out of Illustrator, so when I place or import that same file into InDesign, I can change the colors of it?

Example... I have a black and white vector logo I want to use in a InDesign, but want to change the colors of it to match my layout. Upon placing it... it has a white background and I cannot change the color of the background or the black or logo itself.

I have tried to export about 10 different file types out of Illustrator with no luck.

PS - I did read online that you can copy, paste out of illustrator as well. I tried it and it works, but I would still like to do it by saving the vector logos out of illustrator properly so I can change the colors in InDesign.

I don't believe you can change colors of imported vector files in Indesign. The only way to change the colors within ID is to copy/paste from AI to ID so the paste is then vector content in ID and not associated with an external file.

copy paste is still the best alternative though

the only File format I know of to to save an Ill. in order to change the color in InD is b/w tiff or 1bit.
