Can anybody help me create a eps vector image from rather poor jpeg artwork. I'm a printer and clients always send me useless artwork that i need my designer to re-draw as an eps. i'd rather learn to do it myself. :)

If you need it done quickly look at Live Trace. It can do a really good job.

Hi spacolour,
This reminds me of when I was first trying to decide if it was a good idea to become an Adobe Certified Instructor. I asked one of my best friends (who happens to be a printer) for his opinion and I'll never forget his answer -- A simple "Hell Yes! was all he said.
Because of all the garbage printers get stuck with, it's no great surprise that I get lots of training recommendations from printers.
If the supplied logo is in fairly decent shape, Live Trace may do the trick. But, if you're asking about it, the quality is probably pretty awful. So like Repro suggested, get out the Pen tool and start tracing.

Tracing with live trace, tracing manually or reconstructing the logo are the three basic options depending on what the logo looks like. Cleaning up a logo is an investment. In the old days before we had illustrator "digitising" logos was allways included in the first job we did for a customer, this was the days we neened to code coordinates.
Remember that you can use any combination of the methods for any logo:
- there are maybe some parts of the logo consisting of simple graphic shapes (squares, elipses lines) these you wamt to reconstruct.
- Free shapes or complex unique shapes (coats of arms complex ornamental shapes) you may find live trace will save you hours of work.
- text elements might be similar to a font with just one or two peculiarities. so you might want to place a scan as a template and modify the font that looks most similar after making it into curves. A template of a scan of the logo is crucal as kerning is most likley not a default of a font in a logo.
