i've just went to put on a noise filter to an image and noticed a lot of the other filters were greyed out - i dont use filters often, usually only the noise one, but i noticed this and thought it was odd - i was working in CMYK mode at the time and as soon as i reverted back to rgb they activated - anyone understand why this is?

there's no urgency on this post, i'm just being curious

hope youre all well, mops

A lot of the filters only work on RGB pr grayscale images. I can't really tell you the specific reason, but it has been this way for a long time…

my image worked perfectly although i'm slightly embarrassed to admit i used a filter

dan/repro - i still cant get that bright orange like i want it - will keep trying

If you are working in CMYK it's not going to get a lot brighter than 0 50 100 0. After that, maybe you need to look at a Pantone. You can print fluorescent if you like…
And yes, my workday has just begun. I live on the Pacific Rim…

thanks paulc - i've just started my own magazine and new to commercial printing -so i'm learning as i go along :o :) - the chaps here have been great, got me out of some scrapes - i've always just used photoshop to enhance pictures, or edit my hand sketched ones and stuck to my comfort areas, but i've needed to create a variety of different style ads over the last few weeks so i'm having to learn new things at a great speed

lucky you - i bet it's sunny today as well isnt it, just to make me feel worse? ;o) dark and dreary here .............however, we do have dennis rodman over here right now - how lucky are we then ;o) ......................didnt have a clue who he was, do now though............................................ .................................................. ......................it is basket ball he plays yes? :) :)

Good for you and Good Luck!
so i'm learning as i go along
Aren't we all? Anyone who is any good always is…
the chaps here have been great, got me out of some scrapes
Adobe Ace, DCurry and The Repro Kid have also helped me quite a bit. I'm sure there are other sharp people here as well…
lucky you - i bet it's sunny today as well isnt it, just to make me feel worse?
Just to make you smile, it's is now currently 68 F and clear as a bell. It's like this so much that I really like a dark and dreary day…

I wouldn't brag about that too much. He is , how do you say it, a NUTTER! Great rebounder, though, and yes, that refers to the game of basketball…

i cant believe you have such nice weather - you lucky s0d

...........and there was me thinking it was great that i even knew who dennis rodman was  ...........would it make a difference if i said we had traci bingham over here too?

Paul C

Wouldn't make a difference because I don't know who Traci Bingham is. I do, however, worship Father Ted…

Get your hands on this book. I always see designers with their pantone book but never this one. If you're printing a magazine then referencing a process guide will help.

thanks repro - it's a coincidence that you sent that - i've just come back from one of our big book stores and amongst other books, i purchased a great one on colour - you could obviously see how much colour is confusing me:o ............the mag has now gone to print and i'm so nervous about how it's going to look when printed as it has a wide distribution including a lot of our supermarkets - if it looks bad - i'm off to hide somewhere and deny everything ;) ............ right i'm off to plan the second issue, this time, by setting up a template...................i know i know, i should have done that the first time around, but hey, i'm left handed, we think differently :) :)

thank you - youre a wonderful help as always

repro - that book of yours - what's the title - can i get it off amazon? another colour one will only help, and if you recommended it it must be good

It's a Pantone Process Color Guide. It's not really a book, it only contains Pantone colors and their process equivalent. It's not cheap and it changes every year. Every designer should probably have one. A cheap way to do this is load the Pantone swatches that are in Photoshop or Illustrator or InDesign and look until you find the color you like, then eyedrop it and look at the color mixture. But like they told you, if it isn't in the CMYK gamut it's not possible to reproduce without a spot color…

Yeah, and you're supposed to replace them every year! Keep it in a drawer and out of sunlight so it doesn't fade. That one of mine is 8 years old.

Oh yeah, it's the same weather.

Hey Repro,

Every year! That's more than new upgrades from Adobe.

I just took a look at my Pantone book. Hmm! 1992! I guess it's time for a new one.

Hey, pal, I never spill coffee while working! I'll have you know that was the result of an overripe peach that I left in my bag along with the color guide.

It fused several of the first page together. Whoops.

But those books are expensive so I'm working around the peach damage.
