I guess I don't really know how to describe this, but her goes.

Let's say I have some artwork that over hangs my paper size (a business card), because I want to have full bleed with that portion of the card. When I print the stuff that is oustide of the paper size still prints...how do i get it to print just what is inside of the paper frame?

does that make sense?

thanks!

Whatever you save as a PDF FILE only the artwork inside the artboard will be saved.
So, before printing, save your work as PDF and let that file print out! Hope this helps!

PDF files see everything in the file. Anything that is off the page on the artboard will be visible when you create a PDF. Adobe PDF will shrink everything on and off your page to try and make everything visible when printing. To print your art without showing the bleed open the PDF file in Illustrator (NOT in Adobe PDF view or any other PDF viewer) and print from Illustrator.

I don't understand that. Whatever I create and place on the artboard and go to Save as/PDF only objects inside the artboard will be displayed....I tried it several times....
But maybe I missunderstood something...:)

...how do i get it to print just what is inside of the paper frame?Pedter, just step through the printing dialogue. The second submenu is about defining the printing area.

Pedter,

Before you print, deselect everything and choose Object > Crop Area > Make.

This will draw a crop area the same size as your artboard and then only print what's inside the crop marks.

The same thing happens when we are trying to create a JPG file? Anything hanging over the Artboard is included in our file? So, going the PDF route isnt the best option for speed... Any help?

With JPG files it's really easy. Just draw a rectangle and then go to Object/Crop area/Make.
Anything outside the Crop area will be invisible.

Try cropping the jpeg or pdf file in photoshop, if it's available.
