Hello Everyone:
I just purchased Illustrator CS2 (via download from Adobe) and noticed that it is very slow loading. Almost 4 mins to load. It that normal? I am using a fairly new computer. I don't have this problem with other software.

If it is the absolute first time you've loaded it, it might be sniffing through fonts, plugins, actions, etc. I seem to remember mine doing the same thing but it was perfectly fine thereafter.

Also as Phenn hinted - do you have a ton of non-system fonts installed?
Having too many fonts installed is usually the culprit.

Since I'm not using CS3 Adobe says it'll "take a while to get back" to me, so hopefully someone here can. I've got many many fonts. More than I care to mention. I get an error along the lines of "Adobe Illustrator CS2 UI font could not load or has not been found" after 25 minutes of loading. Then the program hangs, everything goes white and I have to C+A+D my way out. It uses roughly 180,000 KB and 99% of system resources, Is there any way to get CS2 to cache the font list or is the overly large volume of fonts even to blame? How can I get the UI fonts back? I'm really in a bit of a bind here. I don't have the time to regularly rummage through my fonts and remove whatever won't be used for a while (hence the dozen thousand I now have). I'm on XP SP2. 1Gb RAM and 2.8GHz processor (I think). Is there a quick and easy way to make Illustrator up and running again? My design productivity is suffering badly now that this has cropped up suddenly. Before today I didn't have a problem. I added a couple of font families my firm purchased and BAM!! dead in the water. Any suggestions or references would GREATLY help. Especially many many many many many MANY more will be arriving in the next week or so.

The only real answer to your problem thefsd is a) remove fonts b) upgrade RAM or c) get a font manager.

Well, I've tried Font Frenzy, Font Manager 3.5, and some other one that didn't even work as promised, and all "unexpectedly quit" after I tell it to start removing some fonts. Font Frenzy's Defrenzy sounds great but the program shuts down after I press the button. What I did was go to another PC and copy their font folder, re-install the Adobe fonts, and reinstalled system fonts, and I'm still getting the error. Illustrator at least works now, but Is there a link to an installer for the User Interface (UI) fonts Illustrator wants to use? I'd like to avoid this error as you can imagine.

hey,

search for the linotype fontexplorer. it's free and programmed by the world's most important fontexperts. nearly the whole printindustry uses it.

in quick steps you activate and deactivate your fonts. Like playlists in iTunes you could handle them.
