Hello,

I'm working on a project that is using images that are clipped to a 2" by 2" square box. When I go to align/distribute these, they don't align by their clipping mask size, but rather the actual image size (including the part hidden via the mask). Since the size of the original image varies, the aligning/distributing is not working correctly.

Is there a way to align/distribute based on the 2" x 2" clipping mask areas, or will Illustrator always use the actual image size for this process?

Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

Don't align the whole group including clipping mask + content in it, but just the clipping masks. Select only the clipping mask position it somewhere and then bring the next one next to it align it with the control palette - here you can enter the precise cordinates of the mask....Go on with next one the same way...And so on....And then you may have to align the content of the masks...Finally group all them together to keep the alignment...
Not a very fast way.....but maybe you can use it....

Ciao!
