Hello,

I hope someone can help me with this hopefully easy problem. I have used previous versions of Illustrator doing mainly line art drawings of products my company sells. This one is different as I am trying to create a vector drawing based off a gif logo.

I start off by creating a new RGB document, create a new layer and paste a gif into this layer from the clipboard. I then create a new layer and draw on top of it. The problem is when I try and select a color from the gif with the eyedropper tool. Illustrator will not let me, it does not matter if I lock the layer or not.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thank you for any suggestions.

I think there should be some problem. The only case when Illustrator doesn't let you pick color from anything is when all your layers are locked. But if you are working on a layer that is visible and unlocked you can easy pick a color from a locked layer beneath..Look at it once again...You may locked all layers or something like that....Maybe...

Ciao!

It does not seem to matter if the layer is locked or not. Even if I switch to the layer the gif is on the eyedropper will not select it.

to sample color from placed image like gif, psd and else, use the shift key when using the eye dropper

All the checkboxes were selected when I double clicked the eyedropper.

Not Holding the shift key was my problem in Illustrator 10.

I tried it in CS2 and did not need to hold the shift key.

Thank you all very much!!
