Does anyone know if Illustrator CS2 has the rubber band option for the pen tool as Photoshop CS2 has. If it doesn't why not? This is very useful when tracing pictures in Photoshop. I usually trace my image in Photoshop and then copy and paste my path into Illustator for further editing. It would be nice to eliminate this step since Illustrator is supposed to be the vector program.

Hi bearcat,
Illustrator does not have the rubber band option. I, personally, am not fond of that option in Photoshop. I think it's most liked by Photoshop users that have then picked up Illustrator. I think, in general, Illustrator users aren't a fan of the rubber band.

In Photoshop the rubberband function is an "option". Therefore, you can use it if you like the function or not with a click of the box. It should be a choice for the specific user in Illustrator since both programs function very similar in most other aspects of the pen tool. I just feel the rubberband option allows better viewing of where your path is going to end up. Thus, eliminating the need to go back and clean your path up and save design time. Thoughts?

Hi all!
I'm a newbie to these forums and this is my first post... can someone help me out? I've only been using illustrator for the last 2 or 3 months and I was wondering if anyone knows of any tutorials out there to recreate the same style of the graphic used in the interactive tour button (on the right side of this page http://www.illustratortechniques.com/table-of-contents.html ) I've been searching for a while now and found nothing. I've been experimenting with the pen tool but can't get my head around it. This has been naggin me for months. I'd appriciate any tips or tricks anyone would know about achieving this 'swirl' pattern, thanks in advance

Baurer,
Welcome to the forums. In the future, from my experiences at least, you may achieve better results by opening up a new post. Once people consider themselves done with a particular thread, they usually don't look at it anymore. Therefore, it may be wise to start an entirely new thread.
However, there is a video tutorial restricted to subscribers titled "The Pen and Paths." If you are an Illustrator Techniques member, it may be wise to go and view that via the "Tutorial" link at the top of the page. If you aren't a member, then that's just one more reason to join!
Hope you enjoy!
Sincerely,
Michael A. Schade
