After applying a clipping path how can I convert it so that just the the clipped portion inside is left? I just can't figure it out by myself.

I think part of the function of a clipping path is "Non Destructive Editing". A way for you to get the effect you need without losing everything so you can make changes if needed.

So my guess is that maybe you don't need a clipping path.

In that case, it depends on what you are clipping as to what your options are. If you are clipping a photo, then your best choice is to edit it in Photoshop first. And if your clipping path is designed to create a transparent background, then you would need to create that in Photoshop and save it as a PSD file. Then place it into Illustrator.

If you are clipping Vector art, then I would suggest looking into the Pathfinder tools. depending on the complexity of your art, you will need to experiment with the different tools, but I think the ultimate tool you want there is Crop.
