Hi,
Im trying to create a file that is 9.2m wide x 45cm high, but illsutrator doesnt seem to be able to create a file bigger than 5.7m (5779.5586mm as it states in the alert box, when I try anything bigger...???).

Is this the programs limitation? How can i create a high quality graphic for large scale print otherwise??

please help

It is not much of a problem. Create the file using a scale that is easy to work with (1:2, 1:4 for example) and inform the printer of the actual dimensions and the scale the artwork is in. If the art is strictly vector art, then the scaling is not a problem.

You may want to go ahead and ask the printer how they want the artwork. If you have all sorts of raster effects, or are using placed images then you really want to talk to the printer.

Danskiman,

IllustratorCS3 and InDesignCS3 both indeed have a maximum art board size of:
centimeters: 577.9557cm X 577.9557cm
inches: 227.5416" X 227.5416"

That's large enough for a lot of purposes, but it does fall short in some areas, which is why I still use CorelDRAW as well. It has a maximum art board size of 100' X 100'. The downside is it will only let you enter dimensions to three decimal places instead of four like Illustrator will allow.

Another work-around is using Illustrator in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop. I do this often with billboard designs. I'll put together all my vector artwork within Illustrator and design the billboard to 25% or 50% of actual size. Then I'll copy the paths to the clipboard and paste them into Photoshop. In Photoshop's Image Size dialog you can enter in whatever size and resolution you want to use and the paths will scale to that level. Something like a billboard next to a super highway doesn't need very high resolution (usually 36ppi to 72ppi at actual size is enough for a 10' X 30' or 14' X 48' board). Once the Photoshop layout is sized at where it needs to be, I'll select the paths and apply the fills.

Hi Bobby H,
could you please clarify the process indicated using photoshop.

I copied my illustrator paths, and try'd pasting them into photoshop. As there was not an artbaord open in PS nothing happend, so I created a new file with the dims I wanted 9.2m x 4.67m. Then I pasted my paths.

Then I tryd selecting my pasted paths but was unable to...? Do I have to unlock them or something?

Also, what do you mean when your last step stated ' apply the fills'. Sorry for all my (what must seem like dumb) questions, but I am new to such areas..

A step by step idiot guide would be much appreciated if you have the time.
thanks again.

I am using a a particular font for some artwork that I am working on. The client has given me the truetype font that I have installed into my systems (PC- XP) font directory.

When I am in illustrator I am able to select the 'avenir' font as my font although it and the only available version of it 'book' both have a '*' next to it,
and everytime I open the file, it tells me the font is unavailable.

please help
thanks
