Hi,
I am using Illustrator CS3 on a wireless Mac Keyboard.
When I attempt to use the up, down, left and right arrow keys to adjust a curve or a spiral for example, it is way too sensitive. If I nudge something up or down, everything is fine. I checked the keyboard to see if the repeat function was exaggerated, but it was not. Any ideas as to why this occurs only when adjusting shapes? Problem also happens when adding points to the star tool.
Super fast...

It's pretty standard. The arrow keys have been way too sensitive since about v9. Not much you can really do about it other than option/alt-click to draw a star and set the number of points.

Thanks for the help...
I will double check my snap to grid when I get back to the office. Stuck in a hotel for a few days.

you should adjust the increments that the node moves on by going to Illustrator > Preferences >General
The keyboard increments is what needs adjusted / manually set to like 0.01 or 0.001, to be the defined distance a point moves on. Whenever an arrow key is pressed, Illustrator is wired to move or act on the command based on the user defined setting. I hope this answers your question.

may be the problem, and resetting them in preferences may solve the problem. Actually, I change them often during almost every project. It's very fast to change them (about 5 keystrokes) and then you can move a series of selected objects in preselected units. I do think that you should try 99's advice as far as .01" for a start, but if you use .001 you'll fall asleep waiting for something to happen. :D Usually I will go down to .005" for smail detail work.
I wish I had grown up using mm.
I'd be interested in hearing more from Scott about his theory about this problem...

I think you're right about that, but I guess I've adjusted to it, because it hasn't bothered me lately. I haven't tried a star lately, so I'll have to try it and see if I'm missing something.
