small caps disappear!

I had a paragraph style for a heading that specified the font Garamond Pro open type. The type was set in small caps. Now I want to change the type to another font (Futura postscript), but when I try to do that the type disappears. I cannot change the case on the type, I have looked under the type preferences and nothing is checked, not "all caps", not "small caps", nothing. I can only convert this type to another expert font, but then again, I can't change the case or anything else. I am sure this is a glyph issue, but how can I globally change this? Is there a way without typing in 26 character id numbers? thanks in advance for any help.

PS am using InD CS2, on a G5 running Tiger. way too much new technology!

Heidi,

I'm not sure about this one but does your texts come from another app (Quark or Word)? If they do and if they had paragraph styles applied to them in those apps, this might be the problem. I don't know if there is another solution but what I would do is to re-import the text with no styles applied to it.
