Here's a strange buggy thing. After I've created something in AI cs2 with multiple layers and then export that file as a PSD. When opened in PS, it seems that a few of the layers were combined but when i reopen the original back in AI they are separate. Anybody have clues as to why it would combine certain layers and not others during the exporting process?

Yes, some objects may have an overprint applied. All layers beneath an object with an overprint get merged into the layer with the overprinting item.
If you want all separate layers, you will need to strip out all the overprints.
With older versions of Illus. this did not happen. I think the way it works now bites. Adobe constantly changes the way "little" things like this work, which is frustrating. I used to have a reason for leaving the overprints in when exporting, but it's been so long since this worked that I can't remember why I needed it.

Well i went into each layer and chose every object and unchecked overprint fill and stroke on everything but still nothing. These three particular layers always seem to combine. I just don't know.
