So as my system 9 world diminishes I am considering buying a new imac because it has Duo processors that would be good for PhotoShop and the price is good. But am wondering if the Intel processor is a good move compared to a G5. Any insight on that?
Bought a system 10 Jaguar for my old G3 but haven't installed it yet because I really need more power for PhotoShop. Lately I have been needing to save after every function or it freezes after several functions. Lame.

I have been looking at an iMac myself, and personally I am holding off. One reason is that I'm reluctant to buy the first generation of any new product, since there are usually kinks to be worked out. Second, Photoshop CS2 will not run natively on the new Intel iMacs but requires Rosetta which slows down the program quite a bit.
For your siutation, how urgent is the purchase? My Powerbook G4 suits me fine for the moment, so I plan to hold off at least until Photoshop CS3, which will work on the new macs. But that could be awhile, so if you're really itching to upgrade I'd say go for the 'old' power pc imac.

thanks for the info, I had no idea about the CS2 conflict. I do need to do something rather quickly. Have several jobs to finish and at this rate it will take forever.

Indeed, now is a scary time to buy a new Mac. If I had to get one right now I would probably look at a used G4 or G5 that would get me through until the Intel situation has been ironed out. It's going to be about 7 months (supposedly) before Adobe releases a native package for the Intel processors and there are bound to be unforseen problems with the new processors. Good Luck!
