3D Text Effect - Strokes

Im looking to get a special 3D effect on some text I am working with. Here is a link to an example of what I am going for.

Effect 3D Bevel & Extrude is a good place to start

i tried using the 3D extrude and bevel tool, but i cant figure out how to get the same look, with the strokes the way they are
