I'm not really a beginner, but this is something I wish I had known way back when I was a beginner. I also wish that I remembered how I did it back when I had CS2. . .

I want to set up my workspace so that the rulers automatically are visible and my typeface comes up as Helvetica Neue rather than Myriad. I know that when I did it with CS2, I created a file and then put it somewhere in the Illustrator folder but I can't remember now where I put it and I can't seem to find it in the help area.

Also, with CS3's new choices for different types of documents, I don't know if there is a different way to make this happen. All I know is that I want my rulers to show up at all times.

Can anybody help? Thanks so much in advance!

The process will be similar for Mac, but I only have CS3 for windows...

Open up the "Startup Document" for whatever file you would like customized. They are found in C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings\New Document Profiles

Substitute [USER] for whatever user installed CS3 under. Application Data is a hidden folder, you will have to adjust your view settings in windows so that hidden folders are visible.

Before playing with the files BACK THEM UP.

Open one that you want customized up, adjust accordingly and save. Now when you open up that document type it be the way you like it.

Another way to do this without changing these files is to create a new template, and instead of "New" documents, select "New From Template"
