Live Tracing Map's/Arch drawings

The live trace feature seems in theory to be a great time saver but I can never get it to give good results for orthogonal geometry. Does anyone have any tips or settings to get good results? I usually end up giving up and just tracing the old fashion way!

Well, that was the tip I was going to give you. Every now and then I get livetrace to give me a result I can work with. It seems that either the results are too smooth with anchor points few and far between, or I get good results but with about 300 times the amount of anchor point needed.

Truth be told when it comes down to it, some mathematical algorithim will never take the place of a good artists eye and skill. If you do this a lot and you are not using a good commercial quality tablet (meaning NOT the one you can buy in BestBuy) then you might consider the investment. The pencil tool becomes far more powerful with a good tablet and the right settings and your work speed will be much improved over doing it with just a mouse.
