View Full Version : Anchors & Guides too sticky! Help!

I'm not sure how exactly to describe this. If I put a guide behind my illustration (same layer), in previous AI versions, assuming I had enabled "snap to", anchors would snap to the guide just fine. In CS3, anchors not only snap to them, they stick there and I'm unable to do anything with them. No matter if the object with the anchor is in front of the guide or not, I can't move it by simply selecting it directly. I have to marquee around it to select it, then use my arrow keys to move it away from the guide before I can manipulate it any further. If an anchor ends up snapped to a guide, I also can't use the pen tool to click on it and continue drawing the line from that anchor. It's as if the anchor has more affinity for the guide than it should. I've been through all the preferences that have to do with guides and anchors, and I can't see anything that's amiss.

Anyone know what's up or more importantly, how to fix this irritating problem?

Thanks!

Butch

PS: I got exactly *zero* responses on the ever-helpful Adobe user forum on this topic. I can't possibly be the only one on earth experiencing it, right?

What about your selection tolerances? which is the first thing that comes to mind. If you are trying to select a point that is stacked on top of other stuff (especially placed images) then sometimes Illy does not know what to grab if the tolerance is too high.

And the Illustrator forums on adobe suck right now. that upgrade has some serious issues. I can not even log on right now and my post count was wiped out.

I believe it's a smart guides issue in CS3. Turn off smart Guides --- Command-u or Ctrl-u --- and see if it helps.

Just curious how my name got switched to "Torchdude"

Sorry to use such harsh language about the adobe forums, but they deserve it. At least this morning, for the first time in a couple days I could log in and be able to post.

And not sure what you meant by that last question, but I am (as I am everywhere) torch511 which I have been using as a screen name everywhere I have been on the internet since 1997, starting with AOL.

You can change any quote by typing whatever you want after the = sign

Avoid the first three Star Wars Movies. I was drunk when I made them.

And I agree about the adobe forums. I was just curious. It might be y failing memory but I don't recall seeing "torch" over at the Adobe U2U forums.

LOL. LOL. LOL.

PS: I only wanted to LOL once, but the system decided that my message was too short. So I LOL'd a little more.

The 'How' in my question was more of a 'why'

You better not touch my sister... or maybe that would be an even worse torture, FOR BOTH OF YOU!

My name on the forums used to be my name... then somehow it started showing up as torch511 which was what I wanted it to say anyway. I am not sure how that happened since I never changed anything. And now I have no posts other than the 6 or 9 I have done this week. I was never over there much anyway, the forums are not as personable as they are here. I just use it mainly to find an occasional answer... not so much to ask questions or to answer any.

And if it is any consolation, I do not remember you there either.
